Conflict Transformation
How do we relate to others when we are in conflict with them? For many, the solution is to walk away, or pretend there is no problem. Others feel the only way is through aggressive behavior. But the best approach is to face conflict honestly and deal with it through caring processes that lead to win-win outcomes.

Let's Talk,a complete revision of the 1983 title, Communication Skills and Conflict Resolution, is a tool to get Christians thinking, talking, and living out effective skills in interpersonal communication, transforming conflict into growth. As a workbook for group study, Let's Talk includes a personal inventory on our conflict management styles, discussion guides, personal reflection exercises, role plays for active listening and appropriate speaking, and much more. A leader's guide is also included at the back. Copyright 1999.

Theology
Can members of our churches today speak intelligently on divine will, the sacraments, or the Trinity? Or has the modern and post-modern church largely forgotten its creeds? Does it even matter?

A. James Reimer believes that it does matter, and that the church ignores these discussions at its own peril. In short, accessible essays, James A. Reimer approaches the dogmas of the Christian faith with humor, insight, and imagination. Here basics such as heaven, hell, prayer, and judgment are explained with historical insight and contemporary application. Anabaptist Mennonite priorities emerge but with appreciation for the churches wider historical context and traditions. Reimer refuses to consider these topics either too controversial or too boring. Rather, he imagines exciting encounters with the mysteries of faith that can only come from a dogmatic imagination.

Leadership
Is God calling us to start a daycare in our neighborhood? Whom shall we call as our next pastor? May we serve Communion to believers who are not yet baptized? How does our congregation describe its mission?

This book helps congregations learn how to make decisions in healthy ways-focused on God's purposes, and growing in love and truth. Sally Weaver Glick approaches congregational discernment as a process of hearing and entering God's "song." Discernment is what we do to distinguish between God's music and our own static and noise. Good discernment says Weaver Glick, lets God's song "sing through us and shape us, so that we can join in harmoniously, responding to God's love and mercy."

In Tune with God works best in a congregational study setting. It includes stories of real congregations dealing with real issues; a wealth of practical tips for conducting healthy discernment; a leader's guide; an outline for a one- day retreat; and a creative series of "dialogues for two Fools for Christ" that introduce the themes of each chapter.

Community
The conversation about education recorded in Anabaptist Ways of Knowing grows out of a concern that practices which shaped faith communities in the past are rapidly being discarded and replaced in a haphazard, unexamined way. Shenk contends that by revitalizing core practices and the powerful substratum of knowledge they provide, educational endeavors can renew the wellspring of community life.

Here is a resource for any who care about the recovery of faith- based educational practices that are part of a church-school-family ecology. Shenk's aim is to present a strong rationale for tradition- based, critical education that incorporates core practices for strengthening faith communities into its theorizing. The book offers a viable proposal for the Anabaptist-Mennonite faith community often featured in the discussion. And it serves as a model for reflecting on educational theory from any particular Christian tradition.

"People gots ta eat," Mel (Ted Swartz) insistently reminds viewers in this entertaining new youth Bible study video. The sketch shows what it might have been like for two (Ted as "Mel and Lee Eshleman as "Marty") down-on-their-luck and a little out-of-smarts entrepreneurs trying to make a buck peddling "corn dogs and a big orange for a buck-seventy-five" at Jesus' feeding of the 5,000. The comedic sketch leads viewers into looking at the meaning of vocation and how Jesus sometimes calls us in new directions.

Longtime youth speaker/leader Mike Yaconelli also engages viewers with comments about faith and finding your calling in this video for youth-and the vocationally challenged of any age (that's the rest of us).

Short interviews with a bunch of youth and adults regarding their career choices, and thoughts on vocation round out the 14 minutes video. A study guide adds Bible passages and thought-provoking questions to help lead youth-and any interested adults-into a meaningful and perhaps life-changing discussion.

Violence
When Wilma and Cliff Derksen's daughter was killed in 1984, they chose the word "forgiveness," hoping it would somehow spare them the horrors of the aftermath of violence and the ensnaring justice issues. But Wilma confesses: "I soon came to resent anyone who said: 'Just forgive' as if it were that easy."

Later she joined a support group of other parents of murdered children where it became obvious that forgiveness was considered an "F" word. Since, she has teamed with Sunday school teachers, pastors, and counselors in the Winnipeg, Manitoba area to explore how storytelling can become a method and the message of moving toward forgiveness of others.

In this study guide, Wilma L Derksen, Tym Elias, and Brenda Suderman share a seven- session tested approach on storytelling. This is a vital resource for persons in classes, study groups, and congregations who wish to take steps toward forgiveness.

As Christians today, to what Promised Land is God calling us? Toward what kind of world would God have us journey? In this pathway there are 12 pamphlets under the heading The Economy of God. They invite us to work out our faith in the light of everyday economic choices. There are 5 pamphlets called Walking with First Peoples. These encourage non-Native Christians to strengthen relationship with Native or Aboriginal peoples. The Transforming Conflict pamphlet deepens our understanding of how to live with issues that both divide us and bring us together. And the Spirituality of Peace pamphlet invites us to think about our call to the Promised Land. Like Moses, we all have our reasons why God should fine someone else to head out on the journey. God is persistent, and continues to invite us. We are not alone, "It is I who will assist you!"
