Kinientos: New Pictures of an Old world is a book for those who want to broaden their perspective on the Columbian Legacy in the New World. Voices of pain, anger, fear, and hope resound from the poems, essays, and illustrations by 19 contributors of varied ethnic backgrounds--Native Peoples, African-American, Latina/o, Euro-American, and Asian-American. Some of you might not normally hear these voices, but you will find your world view enlarged if you take time to listen to them speak. While speaking on issues that tend to separate people, this book also portrays interrelatedness through the use of the coined work Kinientos in the title, replacing the English work for kin (persons of common ancestry) for the Spanish quin in quinientos (500).
