| The Goshen Conference on Religion and Science was established as a yearly conference to explore ways of bridging the often-perceived gap between religion and science. Each year the conference features one primary speaker who presents lectures and also interacts in dialogue with conference participants. It is the intention of the conference organizers to publish a full record of the proceedings of each conference, including the more informal exchanges between presenter and participants. The first Goshen Conference on Religion and Science took place in April 2001, with Nancey Murphy as it's keynote speaker. Dr. Murphy presented three public lectures at Goshen College, dealing with human identity, the concept of a moral basis for the universe, and evolution respectively. Three discussion sessions followed the lectures. These concentrated on physicalism, the embodiment of humans, and prayer related to God's action. This volume contains the full conference proceedings, edited by Goshen College professor of physics, Carl s. Helrich. The informal, oral nature of the presentations and exchanges has been kept. Readers will find the material accessible and thought-provoking. Copyright 2002. | |

| The unabridged version of Anabaptist History and Theology, published in
1995, received high praise from reviewers. One called the book "a masterful
survey," while another concluded that the book "tells the Anabaptist story
with impressive synthetic power."
Anabaptist History and Theology: Revised Student Edition follows the
same narrative format and story line as the unabridged book. But the text
has been completely rewritten and redesigned to meet the needs of the
non-specialist reader. This second, revised edition features larger print and
numerous sidebars and text boxes.

paperback, 290 pages, $34.95

Cover...
| Between 1971 and 1996 the late John Howard Yoder wrote a group of
ten essays with profound implications for Jewish-Christian relations.
This volume brings these signature writings together for the first
time. Significantly extending the thesis of his influential book
The Politics of Jesus and other previous works, Yoder here
argues that the historic Jewish-Christian schism "did not have to be."
Building his case on compelling historical evidence, Yoder shows that,
properly understood, Jesus did not reject Judaism, that Judaism did not
reject Jesus, and that the apostle Paul's mandate for the salvation of
the nations is best understood as belonging to the contest of his
Jewish heritage. Editors Cartwright and Ochs clarify and
crystallize Yoder's positions by locating them in relation to his
decades-long dialgue with the philosopher-rabbi Steven S. Schwarzschild
and by relating them to Yoder's own study of the book of Ephesians.
They also show how Yoder's views on Jewish-Christina reconciliation
have much to say about what it means for Christians and Jews to jointly
be God's "missionary" peoples to and for the nations. Copyright

Stewardship
| Recent years have seen a shift in the belief that a religious
world-view, specifically a Christian one, precludes a commitment to
environmentalism. Whether as "stewards of God's creation" or champions
of "environmental justice," church members have increasingly found that
a strong pro-ecology stand on environmental issues is an integral
component of their faith. But not all Christian denominations are
latecomers to the issue of environmentalism. In Creation and the
Environment, Calvin Redekop and his coauthors explain the unique
environmental position of the Anabaptists. In rural Amish and
Mennonite communities, the authors explain, the environment—especially
the land—is considered part of the Kingdom that God will establish on
Earth. Creation and human history are thus seen as completely
interdependent. Copyright 2000 John Hopkins University Press

| Alain Epp Weaver offers a political theology of exile which
understands diaspora and return not as irreducible opposites but as
together integral dimensions of the church's witness of the shalom of
the city. Through critical conversations with John Howard Yoder,
Edward Said, Karl Barth, Daniel Boyarin and the Palestinian refugee
experience, the author explores how the church as a community in exile
must learn to be theologically "not in charge." The church cultivates
a receptiveness to the inbreaking of God's Spirit from beyond its
walls. Book 3 in the Polyglossia Radical Reformation Theologies

| Readers will discover that it is not possible to disengage John Howard
Yoder's practice of ecumenical dialogue from his vision of the church.
Yoder's approach to ecumenical dialogue correlates with his conception
of the faithfulness of the church. His vision of the church poses
challenges for Christians of all communions because he calls both for
disciplined dialogue and for faithful servanthood that renders the
confession of Jesus Christ's lordship meaningful.
This collection of 17 essays on themes ecclesiological and ecumenical
is intended to demonstrate the substantial unity of Yoder's work over
the past four decades. Many of these essays are often cited by
researchers but have been till now unobtainable. Three of these texts
have never been published before. Editor Michael Cartwright has
contributed a substantial introduction on the "Yoderian" project, and a
select bibliography catalogs Yoder's writings-published and
unpublished-on ecclesiology and ecumenism.
