This group exists as a forum for the discussion of Mennonite history by both amateur and professional historians. We interpret Mennonite broadly to include Anabaptist, Amish, Hutterites, Brethren in Christ,... We interpret history to include questions of facts and events, queries about archival holdings and policies, questions of interpretation and theory, ranging from the most specific and personal (e.g. genealogy queries) to grand theories of everything (e.g. The Anabaptist Vision).
New Testament studies
Old Testament StudiesMennonites have historically taken principal guidance for shaping its Christian faith and practice from the New Testament. Though certainly not inappropriate, this emphasis has led to a general neglect and consequent unfamiliarity with the Old Testament. The Old Testament is a part of our Bible, but we admit a lack of appreciation for its potential theological and spiritual resources.
This study group has been started on MennoLink in hopes of helping interested Mennonites and others gain familiarity with and appreciation for the Old Testament and its theological and spiritual resources.
Uniform series and other Sunday school discussion
The purpose of this group is twofold. First, to provide a forum for the scholarly discussion of subjects pertinent to Anabaptism and its modern heirs. This would include theology, from an Anabaptist perspective, broadly interpreted: systematic theology, historical theology, Biblical studies, but need not be limited to these areas. Second, the group is intended to provide a forum for Anabaptist scholars and friends to get acquainted and to share information and resources. We hope that it can be a forum where scholars can make available for discussion early drafts of papers and review and discuss important new publications.
