MENNOLINK GROUPS

MennoLink features a variety of interest groups covering topics like genealogy (menno.rec.roots), Sunday School (menno.rec.study.ss), missions (menno.org.missions.news), discussion of current topics (menno.talk.issues) and much more. You may join as many groups as interest you. Once you have joined a number of groups, messages sent from the groups will be distributed to your e-mail address.

Categories

Similar groups belong to the same category. For example, menno.edu contains all of the school groups like menno.edu.bethel and menno.edu.tabor. A category contains other groups or subcategories.

Categories are used as a shortcut in requests to the MennoLink server. For instance, to join all of the school groups, the request subscribe menno.edu can be used in place of subscribe menno.edu.bethel, menno.edu.tabor, menno.edu.goshen, ... Since the category menno contains every group, subscribe menno is a shortcut for joining all of the MennoLink groups at once.

The group menno.org.mcc.news illustrates the relationship between groups and categories:
  • menno.org.mcc.news is a group where MCC news releases are distributed.
  • menno.org.mcc is a category containing MCC groups including one devoted to MCC sales (menno.org.mcc.sales) andmenno.org.mcc.news
  • menno.org is a category containing organizatio nal groups such as VORP (menno.org.vorp) and MCC (menno.org.mcc).
  • menno is a category containing all of the other MennoLink categories, including menno.org.
